Newton, MA/Concord, NH — Sullivan Creative received six creative excellence awards during the New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) Annual Awards Show on June 15. Sullivan Creative's winning entries included: an eye-catching postcard invitation for a fine craft Preview Party and an integrated marketing campaign to generate attendance for the Annual Craftsmen's Fair, both for the League of NH Craftsmen; a unique, cost-effective self-mailer and corresponding web landing page that helped raise funds for the Red River Theatres, a non-profit organization in Concord, NH; a global audience acquisition direct and electronic mail campaign for the IBM Cognos Forum; a display exhibit and pre-conference postcard that helped generate business leads for STR (Specialized Technology Resources); and Sullivan Creative's own low-cost self-promotion piece, called the Elements of Marketing Success. All of these campaigns, described below, met the judging criteria for creative execution and results.

Invitation for the League of NH Craftsmen Fair Preview Party Despite the sluggish economy, the attendance for this event increased slightly over the previous year. More importantly, the amount of sales that occurred in two of the exhibitions during that evening represented about 25% of the sales for the entire nine days of the Fair in these two venues. |

Building attendance for two events during a down economy The nine-day Annual Craftsmen Fair is a vital revenue-generating venue for the more than 350 craftspeople (all members of the League) who rent booths at the Fair to sell their crafts. This is also a critical event for the League itself, as its operating expenses for the next fiscal year depend on the revenue from Fair ticket sales. Working within a limited budget, Sullivan Creative's campaign employed an integrated promotional strategy of print advertising, TV, radio, web, public relations, direct mail, and social media (primarily Facebook) and negotiated non-profit media buys. The campaign was built around the theme of celebrating the "spirit of the maker" and featured fine craft pieces and their makers – the juried members of the League. All of the integrated marketing materials directed people to the League's website for more information and to purchase tickets online. Despite the economic downturn, which affected travel and tourism to the state, attendance as high as previous years and craft sales were better than budget projections. The campaign also brought in people who had never been to the Fair before. |

Forum is the annual global IBM Cognos user conference. For this event, Sullivan Creative established a design and guidelines for all event materials that supported the event theme, Ignite Knowledge, Ideas, Connections. This global audience acquisition campaign involved a schedule of print direct mail and audience-versioned emails over a nine-month period. Our design incorporated a high-impact visual identity – a bright, bold fireworks image – for the materials, and our copy for all of the emails, postcards and registration brochure had a strong call to action and positioned Forum as a dynamic, existing event to take performance to the next level. The messaging also addressed the economic downturn, offering valuable reasons for justifying attendance. As a result of this campaign, Forum met its attendance goal. |
